Message from Coach Dave
Thank you for the update, Brian. I would like to add some additional information regarding the “Last Chance” meet we will swim this week: in past years we have attended the meet Friday evening at Bethel Park. And a smaller number of swimmers have gone to CV for their meet on Saturday morning. This year we are going to skip the meet at Bethel Park and focus on the meet at CV.
I believe the swimmers will benefit from a recovery day on Friday, and the competition at the CV meet will be better. Also, John Nemeth is in the process of having the meet “observed” by USA Swimming officials, so there is a good chance the times the swimmers achieve on Saturday will “count” for USA Swimming.
The meet at CV starts at 9 a.m. The warm-up is at 8. I do not intend to have a bus for the meet, so I would like the swimmers on deck by 8 a.m. I will attend the meet and there will also be a practice at USC from 7:30-9:30 for those swimmers who are not competing in the meet. It would be great if those swimmers could come to CV after practice to cheer on their teammates.
I will talk with the swimmers throughout the week about this meet, and obviously the results of our meet Thursday versus Mt. Lebanon will impact who swims what this Saturday.
Regards,
Coach Schraven

- With last week now behind us with a challenging week of weather, senior rec night, our last home meet ever in our home pool and a travel meet to Erie, Brian and I would like to express a big thank you for all of you who worked behind the scenes to make this such a fun and memorable week for our athletes. From the planning of the ceremony for our seniors, to coordinating and distributing our yearly programs, to timers for the meet, announcers, photographers, computer operators, videographers, the school district for allowing us to host the meet in spite of school being cancelled, organizing of the charter bus for the coaches and athletes to Erie, ordering and picking up of the hoagies and for those who donated food and drinks for the bus trip to Erie - we could not have done this so successfully without all of you efforts and talents. THANK YOU!
- If anyone was unable to pick up their program at the Peters meet, Dave Yakima put yours in the mail folders at the pool.
- Congratulations to our amazing class of 12 seniors. We wish you the best in the future and you will all be missed next year.
- Congratulations also to our swimmers and divers for a great week of competition. We are now gearing up for our final dual meet against Mount Lebanon, which will decide the section champion for the boys and the girls teams. GO USC!

- We will be traveling to Erie, PA. tomorrow Saturday February 2nd for a meet with Cathedral Prep School and Villa Maria Academy. (225 West Ninth Street, Erie PA 16501).
- Boosters will be providing a coach bus for the trip. The bus is departing from the high school at 8:15 am.
- The meet starts at 12 pm. There has been a slight change of plans regarding food for the meet. The hosting schools have graciously offered to provide the swimmers and the divers lunch after completion of the meet.
- As previously stated we have ordered band hoagies for the athletes and divers. The sandwiches will not be ready until 9 am. Brian Suter will be bringing the sandwiches with him to the meet, but will not arrive until 11 am. Most likely this will not be soon enough for everyone to eat prior to the meet.
- Please plan accordingly to have plenty of food, snacks and drinks for your swimmer or diver to consume on the way to Erie in the morning. The sandwiches and other snacks and drinks can be consumed on the way home or simply taken home by your athlete.
- If there are any concerns about food allergies it would be best to provide food you feel comfortable with your athlete consuming as we have no way of knowing ingredients in the foods provided by the hosting schools.

Senior Recognition Night and Dual Meet vs Peters Township tonight at USC
Senior Recognition Night and Dual Meet vs Peters Township tonight at USC
- Regardless of whether school is delayed or canceled on Thursday, the meet versus Peters is ON. We received permission from the USC administration that we can have the meet even if school is canceled, and I just spoke with Mike Meyers (Peters Coach) and he said that he obtained approval to swim the meet whether school is canceled or not on Thursday. So we will be swimming Peters Township this Thursday in the last dual meet ever at USC high school (which is also Senior Recognition night).
- Thank you to the individuals who have stepped forward and offered to time for our meet on Thursday. Your names will be left at the admission table. Please do not pay to get in.
- The parents of senior athletes are also invited guests on Thursday. Your names will also be left at the admission table.
- Dave Yakima will be passing out our program books on Thursday as well. Make sure you see Dave to get your program. Thank you Dave for all of your work on this.

Update from Coach Schraven
Hello USC Swim and Dive Families,
I want to provide you with an update given school cancellation tomorrow and possible cancellation or delay on Thursday: although there is no school tomorrow, we ARE allowed to have practice, with the stipulation that practice has to be at the regular practice time. So we will have swim practice tomorrow from 2:30-5. I believe Andy plans to have practice tomorrow evening, as well, and he will communicate directly with the divers regarding the time of the practice.
Also, regardless of whether school is delayed or canceled on Thursday, the meet versus Peters is ON. We received permission from the USC administration that we can have the meet even if school is canceled, and I just spoke with Mike Meyers (Peters Coach) and he said that he obtained approval to swim the meet whether school is canceled or not on Thursday. Message from Coach Schraven about next week's home swim meet.
Hello All,
I want to touch base regarding the change of date for the Oakland/Central Catholic meet next week. The meet will be Tuesday, January 15 rather than Thursday, January 17. I know this is inconvenient with respect to final exams, but unfortunately there is an officials shortage for next Thursday and there was no alternative date that works for both teams. So the meet has to be Tuesday the 15th.
Yesterday I asked Dr. Deitrick if it would be possible to move up the start time of the meet from 6 pm to 5 pm so the kids can get home earlier. He got on the phone with the OC/CC AD, as well as with the head official, and he made it happen. So the meet will start at 5 p.m. Thanks, Dr. D!

Dear High School Swim and Dive Families,
Team and individual high school pictures will be taken on Tuesday, December 4, right after
school. Please ask your swimmer or diver to come to the pool by 2:30 and make sure they
bring their white team warmups, as the kids will wear these for the team picture. Casey
Fitzpatrick thinks the new ones that were ordered should be in by December 1. As long as
those arrive on time, we should be good to go! If not, we may have to reschedule. If there are
any older swimmers that have an extra warmup they have grown out of, please have them
bring it. They may be able to lend it to anyone who happens to forget theirs.
Additionally, if any of the PEAQ club families would like an individual picture of their swimmer in their PEAQ gear, they can get one taken on December 4 as well. Just make sure they have a
PEAQ t-shirt, and the photographers can take an individual shot of them in that attire too.
I have the order forms from M & M Photography. I will give them to Coach Dave sometime
next week to pass out to the kids at practice. Please send payment and the completed form
with your athlete on picture day. NOTE: M & M has asked that if you are ordering both a High
School photo and a PEAQ photo, that you fill out two separate order forms.
Thank you,
Debbi Bishop

Dear Athletes and Families of Senior Divers and Swimmers,
With the high school swim dive season rapidly approaching we are working hard towards creating a memorable senior season for all of you. For this year we have decided to have posters made of our senior swimmers.
In an effort to control the cost, while still having uniform photos of all athletes, we are going to have individual photos taken of all seniors and then have the banners printed by Vista Print.
Please note that in the past the 8 x10 laminated pictures of the seniors were done at no cost to the boosters.
Ramona Neal has graciously agreed to photograph the senior swimmers on Friday, October 12th at 11 am (there is a half day that day). Thank you Ramona. Photos will be taken at the USC pool. Please bring your high school sweats (pants and jackets) for the photo. Any senior unable to attend will be photographed at a later date and time. (see sample below).
We would like to move on this quickly as the turnaround time to make the posters is several weeks and we would like things up and hanging by the start of the season. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions of concerns.
Thanks,
Barb Benedict

Good evening everyone:
We are gearing up for another successful USC Swimming & Diving season. The boosters will be hosting a parent meeting on Wednesday, September 19th at 7pm in the LGI room at the USC High School. We hope all can attend as we will be covering a lot of information for the upcoming season.
Attached is our 2018/2019 Boosters Registration Form. Please print and bring the completed form along with your checkbook to cover dues to the meeting. Once again, Erin Mudry was kind enough to handle our registration.
Below are two links, (1) for the USC Athletic registration fee and (2) the 2018/2019 PIAA Sports Physical forms. Both forms will need to be returned before the deadline in the first week of November.
2018-19 Athletic Reg Fee Form
2018-19 PIAA Physical Form
In preparation for the meeting, we have a few committee spots that need a Chair person and/or a Co-chair. We will discuss the committees and involvement at the meeting. Ideally, we would like to have parents with younger students involved to shadow a committee for future years.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the meeting. Go USC!!
